About Our Club

Club History

The Classic Camaros of the Carolinas car club was first envisioned during the late summer of 2010. A group of first and second generation Camaro owners in the metro Charlotte area began discussions of forming a car club that emphasized first and second generation Camaros. The group decided there was a need for such a club for first and second generation Camaro owners in the Charlotte metro area. During the fall of 2010 potential members were contacted to ascertain if there was interest in forming the first and second generation Camaro club. The group decided to wait until early 2011 to form the club.

On January 8, 2011, a group of Camaro owners including Bobby Bonds, Keith Lutz, Larry McNeill, Gary Volpicelli, and Roy Danaher met in Concord and decided to form the club which was named Classic Camaros of the Carolinas. The club would consist of first and second generation Camaros which were built from 1967 until 1981. Membership was limited to owners of first and second generation Camaros.

The first officers consisted of:

  • President Bobby Bonds
  • Vice President Keith Lutz
  • Secretary Roy Danaher
  • Treasurer Gary Volpicelli

Bobby would also serve as the Charlotte Motor Speedway AutoFair coordinator.

The group was of the consensus that by the end of 2011, the club membership could consist of at least twenty-five (25) members due to the number of first and second-generation Camaros in the area. New members are recruited by attending car shows and cruise-in events in the area showcasing our Camaros. Our club is the oldest exclusively classic Camaro club in the Charlotte (NC) region.

Our Mission

Classic Camaros of the Carolinas is a nonprofit car club organization established for the owners of Chevrolet First and Second Generation Camaros manufactured from 1967 thru 1981. The mission of the club is for the enjoyment of our Camaros through the fellowship of club members participating in car related activities such as car shows and cruise-ins while preserving a classic American automobile. Members share their classic Camaro automobiles with fellow classic and muscle car enthusiasts.

Our Goals

(1). Collect, restore, preserve, drive, and display to the public first, second, and third generation Camaros
(2). Showcase our passion for the first ,second, and third generation Camaros to the public by attending area car shows and cruise-ins as a group and displaying our Camaros.
(3). Encourage the continued restorations of first, second and third generation Camaros.
(4). Pass along the knowledge members have gained during the restoration of their individual Camaros to other club members who are in the process of restoring a first, second and third generation Camaro
(5). Provide a outlet for owners of first, second, and third generation Camaros to meet as a group to enjoy their Camaros.
(6). Pass down our passion, hobby, and interest for the first, second, and third generation Camaros to the future generations. We have members who are the original owner of their Camaro and others whose first car was a first or second generation owners. We also have a member whose occupation is restoring first generation Camaros.
(7). Establish a mechanism similar to those used in national events for each member to have their Camaros judged to a standard for different certification levels rather than members competing against each other for a trophy or award. Several club members have attended the Camaro Nationals and had their Camaros judged.
(8). Create a website and establish a Facebook page to showcase club members and their Camaros.
A future goal of the club will be to the return to and hosting of a regional Camaro show to the area.
The ultimate goal of the Classic Camaros car club is to have the best first and second generation Camaro club in the area.
